Pheasants Forever Hunting Forecast

2008 Pheasant Hunting Forecast

All across the Midwest and Upper Midwest, signs are pointing to an excellent pheasant hunting season. The typical pheasant powerhouses - South and North Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and Nebraska - will again top the list. Unfortunately, because of the potential for massive habitat losses this year and next, namely Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres under soon-to-expire contracts, we may soon be referring to 2007 as "the good old days."

On the Wing: October 2008

Jon Lee, President of the Five Valleys Chapter of Pheasants Forever in Missoula, Montana, recently returned from northern Quebec where he bagged a trophy on the final day of his hunt. "It was a tough hunt because we missed the migration of the caribou," said Lee, who also bagged a smaller caribou on the second day of the hunt. On that final day, Lee was wearing his Lucky hunting cap. "Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!" he said.

Luckily for you, there are more great stories and photos in this month's edition of On The Wing, the monthly eNewsletter from Pheasants Forever.

A fresh season - Its about the journey, not the dead birds
